Before taking the medication of Ambien

Ambien 10 mg may sometimes cause allergic reactions that may be severe. Dosage of Ambien

Adult dose for Insomnia: Initial dose for women is 5 mg and for men is 5-10 mg, before bedtime.

Increment of Dose: The doctor will advise increasing the dose if the 5 mg is not working well.

Maximum dosage: Do not exceed the limit of dose 10 mg right before bedtime.

Children’s dosage: The medication of Ambien is not well in the children. However, it should not be used in children younger than 18. 

Dosage for Elderly patients:5 mg once right before bedtime.

Patients with liver disease (elderly): Ambien 5 mg once right before bedtime

(for people who have mild to moderate liver disease). However, avoid this drug if you have a condition of severe liver disease.


Side Effects

The common side effects of Ambien (zolpidem) can include:

  • headache
  • chest pain
  • Palpitations
  • drowsiness
  • dizziness
  • diarrhea
  • dry mouth
  • grogginess
  • lightheadedness
  • muscle pain

If these effects are mild, then they will vanish within a few days or weeks. But if they are getting worse or don’t go away, visit your doctor. For emergency medical help, you can also call 911.
